Sound and Movement At Be Here Now Yoga

Be Here Now Yoga is not just about yoga. The studio is pleased to offer monthly Tibetan Singing Bowls Sound Meditation with Denise Mihalik and monthly JourneyDance with Esta Kaftan. These two programs are beneficial to the mind, body and spirit.

Singing bowls are used worldwide for mediation, music relaxation and personal well-being. Denise adds that, “singing bowls offer individuals time to rest and receive the perfect vibrations and harmonics of the hand -hammered bowls. The bowls are rung in specific patterns that offer deep-relaxation, healing and balance leaving clients with a sense of rest and renewal.” Clients experience relief from physical pain, anxiety and stress. Join Denise for an hour of deep relaxation on June 1, July 19 and August 15.

JourneyDance is sometimes described as “a barefoot, freestyle celebration of the human spirit,” that incorporates dance, yoga movement, and theatre exercise accompanied by amazing and inspiring world music. The playlist, which is created uniquely for each JourneyDance, is comprised of inspiring popular tunes (think “HAPPY,”  “Roar,”  “Brave,”  “Fragile”) and inspiring world/yogic music (think Krishna Das, Garish, Donna Delory and others). Take your shoes off! Let your hair down! Have fun!

Discover how much fun JourneyDance can be at the special introduction to workshop on Friday, June 13. Bring a friend and enjoy a two-for-one fee. ‘’’Journey Dance changed my life,” says Esta. “It is deeply transformative for me and others in a physical, emotional and spiritual sense. It permits me to rest, relax and release and feel more alive. I need to dance and move each day even if it’s in my living room!” Additional session will be offered on July 27 and August 19.

June 21 is the longest day of the year, actually the longest period of sunlight. Celebrate the Summer Solstice with us for an evening of Singing Bowls and JourneyDance on June 21. Come for JourneyDance at 7:00 p.m. or Singing Bowls at 8:30 p.m. The cost is $15 each, or take both for $25. Space is limited and pre-registration is advised.

Tick Talk

Spring officially sprung on March 21. We have turned our clocks ahead. We are looking forward to warm winds, sunny skies and the smell of fresh cut grass. The daffodils and tulips have recently bloomed and we are just starting with the yard work that comes with the warmer weather.  Sadly, another season has started ramping up.  Tick season.

•             The best form of protection is prevention. Educating oneself about tick activity and how our behaviors overlap with tick habitats is the first step.

•             According to the NJ DOH, in 2022 Hunterdon County led the state with a Lyme disease incidence rate of 426 cases per 100,000 people. The fact is ticks spend approximately 90% of their lives not on a host but aggressively searching for one, molting to their next stage or over-wintering. This is why a tick remediation program should be implemented on school grounds where NJ DOH deems high risk for tick exposure and subsequent attachment to human hosts.

•             Governor Murphy has signed a bill that mandates tick education in NJ public schools. See this for the details.  Tick education must now be incorporated into K-12 school curriculum. See link:

•             May is a great month to remind the public that tick activity is in full swing. In New Jersey, there are many tickborne diseases that affect residents, including Anaplasmosis, Babesiosis, Ehrlichiosis, Lyme disease, Powassan, and Spotted Fever Group Rickettsiosis.

•             For years, the focus has mainly been about protecting ourselves from Lyme disease. But other tick-borne diseases are on the rise in Central Jersey. An increase of incidence of Babesia and Anaplasma are sidelining people too. These two pathogens are scary because they effect our blood cells. Babesia affects the red blood cells and Anaplasma effects the white blood cells.

•             Ticks can be infected with more than one pathogen. When you contract Lyme it is possible to contract more than just that one disease. This is called a co-infection. It is super important to pay attention to your symptoms. See link.
