Smile Designs 101

Dr. Kosmas Kasimatis opened his dental practice, Smile Designs 101, 900 Easton Avenue, Somerset, fifteen years ago and has been providing outstanding oral health care, cosmetic treatments, and restorative procedures to his community ever since.  The focal point of Dr. Kasimatis’ practice is dental implant surgery, performing more than 200 surgeries each year.  In addition, a full range of general dentistry and cosmetic services is offered for the entire family, including natural dentures, bridges, Lumineers, partials, root canals, whitening, and full mouth rehabilitation.  Dr. Kasimatis is proud to be one of only 1% of US dentists to have a Cone Beam CT scan machine on site to aid in the diagnosis and planning for implant surgery.

The friendly staff at Smile Designs 101 enjoy their work and strive to make their patients comfortable and relaxed throughout any procedure.  Every patient is offered a free initial consultation, exam and x-rays at absolutely no obligation.  “This is a service we provide for everyone,” says Dr Kasimatis.  “We try to be fair and flexible with our financial arrangements so patients can accomplish their goals.  We want to make it work for them.  This is why people keep coming to us.”  The doctors and staff believe that dental treatment is a great investment in an individual’s well-being, and financial considerations should not be an obstacle to obtaining this important health service.  His practice will create a financial arrangement that works for any patient.

The practice participates with most insurance plans.  They can accept assignment of benefit payments from most insurance companies, and will bill the patient’s insurance company. This will reduce immediate, out-of-pocket expenses. The office will provide a patient’s insurance company with all necessary documents and X-rays at no extra charge.

Dr. Kasimatis and his dental staff have earned numerous awards and recognitions, including being named a “Top Dentist” six years in a row by the Consumers’ Research Council of America, and “One of the Best” Dentists in Central Jersey by the Courier News, a distinction based on readers’ votes.

Building a strong connection to the local community is a priority for Dr. Kasimatis.  His practice supports numerous local groups, including events at churches, synagogues and schools.  They participate in a program called “Give Kids a Smile” which offers annual exams and treatment at no charge for children.  They also participate as a sponsor for the Somerset Patriots minor league baseball team.

Keeping connected to his community and creating an inviting atmosphere for his patients comes naturally to Dr. Kasimatis.  “I was born in New Brunswick on Easton Avenue,” he says.  “And now I practice on Easton Avenue.  I went to Rutgers and to UMDNJ [now part of Rutgers].  The energy here is good.”

The goal of Smile Designs 101 is to provide the most pleasant dental experience possible, and they pride themselves on striving for pain-free and stress-free dentistry.  State-of-the-art technology ensures patients’ comfort and exceptional quality during treatment.

Tick Talk

Spring officially sprung on March 21. We have turned our clocks ahead. We are looking forward to warm winds, sunny skies and the smell of fresh cut grass. The daffodils and tulips have recently bloomed and we are just starting with the yard work that comes with the warmer weather.  Sadly, another season has started ramping up.  Tick season.

•             The best form of protection is prevention. Educating oneself about tick activity and how our behaviors overlap with tick habitats is the first step.

•             According to the NJ DOH, in 2022 Hunterdon County led the state with a Lyme disease incidence rate of 426 cases per 100,000 people. The fact is ticks spend approximately 90% of their lives not on a host but aggressively searching for one, molting to their next stage or over-wintering. This is why a tick remediation program should be implemented on school grounds where NJ DOH deems high risk for tick exposure and subsequent attachment to human hosts.

•             Governor Murphy has signed a bill that mandates tick education in NJ public schools. See this for the details.  Tick education must now be incorporated into K-12 school curriculum. See link:

•             May is a great month to remind the public that tick activity is in full swing. In New Jersey, there are many tickborne diseases that affect residents, including Anaplasmosis, Babesiosis, Ehrlichiosis, Lyme disease, Powassan, and Spotted Fever Group Rickettsiosis.

•             For years, the focus has mainly been about protecting ourselves from Lyme disease. But other tick-borne diseases are on the rise in Central Jersey. An increase of incidence of Babesia and Anaplasma are sidelining people too. These two pathogens are scary because they effect our blood cells. Babesia affects the red blood cells and Anaplasma effects the white blood cells.

•             Ticks can be infected with more than one pathogen. When you contract Lyme it is possible to contract more than just that one disease. This is called a co-infection. It is super important to pay attention to your symptoms. See link.
